O cientista laureado com o pr\u00eamio Nobel de 1907 foi Albert Abraham Michelson: \u201cPor seus instrumentos de precis\u00e3o \u00f3ptica e as investiga\u00e7\u00f5es espectrosc\u00f3picas e metrol\u00f3gicas realizadas com sua ajuda\u201d. Em meados da d\u00e9cada de 1880, Albert Michelson desenvolveu um aparelho chamado de interfer\u00f4metro, que usa um espelho semitransparente para dividir um feixe de radia\u00e7\u00e3o eletromagn\u00e9tica uniforme. Depois de passar diferentes ondas atrav\u00e9s de diferentes canais, as ondas de luz s\u00e3o recombinadas e a diferen\u00e7a nas dist\u00e2ncias percorridas leva a uma diferen\u00e7a de fase entre si, o que gera padr\u00f5es de interfer\u00eancia. O instrumento \u00e9 usado para medir o comprimento de onda e a velocidades de luz com grande precis\u00e3o.<\/span><\/p>\n

Grande apreciador das precis\u00f5es das suas medidas, Michelson aperfei\u00e7oou seu instrumento, conseguindo uma precis\u00e3o muito grande nas medidas da velocidade da luz, dando uma maior precis\u00e3o a medidas astron\u00f4micas e a comprova\u00e7\u00e3o da inexist\u00eancia do \u00e9ter lumin\u00edfero, dando suporte a teoria da relatividade geral de Einstein.<\/span><\/p>\n
